About Southern Soul

Hello and welcome to Southern Soul Doula! My name is Erica Henson (CD(DONA)) and I am so excited that you have begun the journey into looking for a doula for the birth of your baby!

I love everything there is about pregnancy and the body's ability to birth. I discovered my love of birth during nursing school and always knew that the birth setting is where I was meant to be. I always wanted to be on the receiving end of life and it is exactly what I am able to witness with every birth.

It was in August of 2016 when a dear friend asked me to be with her for the birth of her 3rd child that I really began to dive into the world of birth support and what doulas do. I had been able to support many other friends over the years in the birth of their children, but for some reason, I felt called to take this leap at that time. During my DONA training I realized that this is where I needed to be.

Every birth is powerful and incredible! I love to provide education to all my clients and I want to make sure that you know what your choices and options are when it comes to birthing your baby. Birth is such a personal and life altering experience and I feel truly blessed to be allowed to join families during this special time. Pregnancy is incredibly beautiful and being there when a new life comes into the world is an incredible experience and makes me feel like this is exactly where I belong.

I married my high school sweetheart and we have been living in the San Diego region since 2009, courtesy of the U.S. Navy. I enjoy spending time at home with our daughter, crafting and quilting, cheering on my football team, and baking all kinds of yummy sweets and classic southern comfort foods!
