What is a Doula?

A doula is someone who has been professionally

trained to provide continuous emotional and physical

support to a woman during birth as well as shortly

after childbirth into the immediate post-pardum period.

The doula is there to help the laboring woman achieve

the best, healthiest, and the most satisfying birth

possible.

A doula is also there to help educate and inform both

the laboring woman and her partner. She is not there

to be the woman's voice, but to encourage her in

communication with any medical professionals.

A doula shouldn't provide any medical advice but she can help the woman and even the partner, get her questions answered or discuss the fears/concerns she may have.
