Initial Consultation

Initial consultations are always free! This is a period of time when we can talk and get to know each other so that we can decide if we are a good fit for each other. Think of this as an interview! This is a very intimate time in your life and we should feel comfortable together. It would be ideal if the spouse or partner of the laboring woman could be in attendance to this initial meeting as well.

During our initial meeting we will talk due date, hospital/birth center for delivery, as well what kind of support you are looking for! We can briefly discuss your pregnancy and any "wish list" items you would like during your birth!

First and Second Prenatal Visit

Once we have agreed to work together and a contract has been signed, we will set up your first official visit. Here we will discuss more about your current pregnancy, your pregnancy health history, any other pertinent health issues, your birth wish list and other labor and delivery related topics. Some education is covered in our prenatal visits, but it is highly encouraged that you take a birth class.

Usually this visit takes place later in the 3rd trimester, around the 34 week mark. We will discuss in more detail of what you would like during labor and what your expectations are for this delivery. As you get closer to the end of your pregnancy, we will have constant contact either via phone, text or email.

Labor and Delivery

During our prenatal visits we will discuss your wishes for contact during labor and when you would like me to arrive. I will either meet you at your home, birth center or hospital of your choosing.

This is generally the greatest amount of time we will spend together. We will use various comfort measures to allow you to be more comfortable and we will discuss any issues that may arise. I generally stay 1-2 hours into the immediate postpartum period to help you establish a bond with your baby. If you are a single mother and are alone in your delivery, I will remain with you until you are transferred to your postpartum room at the hospital, generally after the 2nd hour post birth.

Postpartum

After the delivery of your baby, I will remain for up to 2 hours post birth. During this time I will assist you in whatever capacity that may be. I can assist in baby's first latch, if you choose to breastfeed. I can also assist with the initial bonding between you, partner and baby.

Once you are home and settled after the baby is born, I will come to your house for our final postpartum visit. We will discuss your labor and delivery and I will be more than happy to answer any questions or clarify anything from the birth that you may have.
